I had an annual Dr. appt. last week & since I had to put on 'real' clothes (opposed to workout clothes) & put on makeup (my new least favorite thing to do), I also arranged to have lunch with a friend from work.
She left the company several years ago but we were & continue to be friends outside of work. I've known her for well over 20+ years & have watched her kids grow up. Her youngest just turned 16. It was great to catch up with her & to hear all about the kids new adventures.
After lunch as we were saying goodbye she said that she had something for me in her car. It was in a Target shipment box & since she had to get to a conference call she just handed me the box to open later.
I ran a couple of errands & then went to Dr., which took almost 2 hours of wait time! That is most unusual & I had my Kindle to read but still ... He apologized & was done w/me in about 15 minutes, all's well.
By the time I got home I had completely forgotten about the box until later in the day. When I opened it here is what she gave me!
It's a Ninja power blender, the kind you see advertised & on infomercials. All I could say was WOW! This thing is very powerful. It came with the blender as well as the 2 different sized jars which are great for making smoothies.
I think the primary purpose of it is to incorporate veggies in order to be healthy but the 1st thing I made was a pineapple, strawberry, lime, coconut smoothie. Not dietetic at all but very delicious.
Today I made an avocado, pineapple, yogurt smoothie which was very thick so I put a few ice cubes in it to melt down so I could drink it through a straw. Very tasty. I'm going to venture into incorporating spinach & other greens soon. Maybe this will be the way that I can actually add Kale to my diet (not my favorite green!).
No venturing out for me this week it's supposed to be raining almost every day but should cool down a bit for the weekend which will be great as we have a family reunion to go to. I've got to decide what I'm making to eat. Thinking Old Settlers Baked Beans & a Key Lime Lasagna? I'll post about it next week.
Have a great week everyone!

Ah - now that is a special gift - lucky you :D
You could also use it to blitz tomatoes that you harvest - for fresh gazpacho or when you're preserving them ;)
Thanks Dani. I hope to use it for many things. I'm thinking of making Cauliflower soup & using it to puree
DFW,
It's nice to remain friends with former employee's from work. You'll love your Ninja, it's very powerful!!!! I love mine, it made my old blender look like a weeny.......I trashed my old one!
Are you enjoying retirement now?
Sandy,
My old one here in the city a Cuisinart, is a decent one so I'm taking it to the country to replace the really cheap one I have there. I'm going to sell that one at a garage sale, it's only been used a doezen times or so. And yes, I am now enjoying retirement, even worked on a little quilt table topper today. Thanks for asking.
We were lucky enough to inherit a vitamix a few years back, I think they work about the same, though I wouldn't mind a new Ninja, ha. We do like you, when we get something new in town, we decide which we move to the country.
Sandy beat me to it, i was going to ask how retirement is treating you? Sounds like you are enjoying it. I can't wait till we get there!
Oh I would love a Vitamix. I ran across one at an Estate Sale a while back. It was priced at $100 & I think it was 30% off that day. At the time I was limiting myself to only buying things that were $20 or less. My husband said WHY DIDN'T YOU BUT IT? We went back the next day & of course it was gone. I kick myself each time I think about it.
Wow, very nice gift from very nice friend! The blender I've used for years is just a cheapie and husband has been after me to get a better one, but I've yet to do so. I may have to ask you some questions after you've had time to use yours a lot. I'm not a "gadget" person. Give me a wooden spoon and favorite chef's knife . . . which, I realize, is probably biting off my nose to spite my face. There are some really good, labor-saving devices out there I should pay more attention to.
Aren't you finding "retirement" enables you to be more relaxed and take the time to smell the roses? As you say, you no longer have to try to squeeze everything you do around your work schedule. Ahhhh, so nice.
Mama Pea,
So far I have made many smoothies using the 24 & 32 oz jars. I haven't put any greens (except avacado) in yet & it only runs for 20 seconds before all is blended. I am making Cauliflower soup today & plan on using the blender portion to puree, we'll see how that goes.
I am loving retirement so far & yes I'm more relaxed. Still only working on mini quilt projects & deep cleaning rooms sporatically, as I get 'in the mood'. Not in any hurry ... oh, that feels so good to say.
Wow is right! What a thoughtful friend and what a fantastic gift.
Thanks Leigh!
