That's all, just wanted to get them documented in case they actually live. Will be putting straw around them the next time we go, to hopefully help with any freezing weather that may come our way this winter.

I love planting trees. I have a Pinoak I started from an acorn and it has taken it 22 years to reach about 30 feet :)
I find Oaks are actually harder to get going too.
Looks like you kept the Maples far enough from the house. Maples are the worst for falling over when they get large.
And, Oaks (& Syscamores) take forever to grow but I find them both very satisfying. Hope I love long enough to sit under their shades in 20 years or so. Yes, I know the Maples tend to fall over but they grow pretty fast. We aren't fans of pine trees because of their tendency to attract lightening bolts so we keep them well away from structures as well. Hope to put some Pecan trees in next Spring.
i don't know what i'm more jealous of - the lemon and orange trees or the baby quilt!!! good job Dallas!
your friend,
kymber
Thank you my friend! We'll see if they perform.
DFW,
Great tree pictures. In about 5 years you should be getting some fruit off of the lemon and orange tree's.
Does planting a pecan tree count?? I have a pecan seed a squirrel planted last year, it now has 5 leaves and is about 3 inches tall.
hey - i was expecting a comment about making me a quilt - bahahahahah!
Sandy,
The orange tree has had blossoms for 2 years now, which I picked off. If I get them next year I may let a few form to see how they taste. I don't have much hope for the lemon tree, that is actually a shoot off of the original tree, which died. I couldn't bring myself to cut it. If no blossoms next year I'll take it out & start over, along with a lime (1st one died too). And yes pecan trees count! Most of ours along the fence line are 'volunteers' anyway. You should have pecans in about 7 years!
Ha!
if a tree is what ya needed....I would have let you come up here and dig up all you want...of course you would have needed a semi to haul them back.
Every time a person passes away in our family, or extremely close friend, we plant a tree in memorial. So far we have a dogwood, and peach tree. The peach is still small and has yet to produce anything. and forget our pecan trees, the squirrels get to them before we can... : (
our youngest collected an acorn, that he planted in a empty spot, hoping it will sprout...but so far it hasn't.
JUGM,
There are many along our fence line that I would love to dig up but are too hard to get to. Need one of those tree digger upper things that you see highway maintenance crews using. Looked into renting one but the 2 rental places don't have them.
I like the idea of planting a tree in remembrance of loved ones. Hope that acorn grows into a mighty oak one day!
I love planting trees and love seeing them planted. Keeping them watered is always my challenge.
Leigh, Watering is our biggest concern as well. We got lucky with rain each week, in the first few weeks after planting but have had to do it by hand since then, & only every 2 weeks to boot!
