Started out with me getting up at 6:30a, stretching for 20 minutes, then going for a 1 mile mini walk.
As I was leaving I decided to grab my house key which detaches from my car key. Locked door, put garage door down & realized I had grabbed my car key instead of the house key. Locked out! Oh well, I'll grab the hidden house key to let myself in when I get back. Walked .5 miles & then turned around to come home.
About 1/2 way home one of the neighbors door opens & out rushes their very unfriendly dog which came right at me. It's a medium sized dog & just stood their growling & barking at me but never lunged. Neighbor comes out to road to get dog which is sniffing me & decided I wasn't such a threat after all. Gave him a pat & continued on home.
The next house down, another very large black dog comes out barking but never left their driveway. I knew about the 1st house & their dog but the dog at the 2nd house is new. Will have to investigate if he is a permanent resident or just visiting.
Made it home, retrieved key & tried unlocking the door. It wouldn't work in the door I had left from. Go around to back patio to see if it will work on that door. Yep it did but because I came in a different door than I had left from the alarm goes off. Jeez, what a way to start the first day of the rest of my life.
Now it's on to technology world. New laptop wouldn't connect to internet. Tried a couple of things & it finally connects. Sign in to email to thank all my wonderful friends for the retirement presents & keep getting kicked offline. The connection is hit or miss. It's disconnected twice while I'm typing this post. Will have to get on the phone with HP. My old laptop doesn't have this problem.
Now on to the new TVs we had to buy because we got hit by lightening a couple of weeks ago. Note: Several neighbors also lost TVs in the same storm - 10 in all. Got both connected but they aren't even half as clear as they were in the store. Called carrier & they said that my eqipment is old & they will have to send new boxes in order to get HD service. At least it wasn't something we did when installing them.
All in all a pretty rough start but I think it will only go uphill from here. Gotta go, I've got boxes to unpack.

Well now, Dallas - aren't you the lucky one :) Congrats on reaching retirement :D
Me - I'm 2 years overdue, but running your own business means it isn't so easy to stop... Maybe one day before I'm too old to enjoy it.
"Boxes to unpack" - have you moved, or is it the new TV's...?
Thanks Dani. I understand about running your own business as my husband owns his. Boxes from 34 years worth of stuff from the office. Need to file & sort in home office. And yes, the TV boxes are cluttering the hallway for now too.
DFW,
I'm in town briefly, and decided to bounce into Blogger to read a few of my favorite blogs :-) and came across your retirement post. Congratulations Sweetie, I know you're extremely happy and looking forward to your new found freedom. Getting locked out, dealing with neighbor dogs, and having your alarm trigger wasn't the beautiful start you were looking for. Just remember, you didn't have to roll out of bed to get ready for work, and then drive to the office and that in it's self is a good thing.
We have continuous power flickers in our area, and learned the hard way having to replace a TV. After the replacement, we purchased APC surge protection to protect our computer and TV from power outages. This way if we lose power, the electronics don't flicker on and off, they stay on and are not damaged and we have power to them if the power goes out. It was a nice investment each cost us approximately $50. - 70 bucks depending on the size you need.
Live life to it's fullest now that you're retired, and welcome to the retirement club :-)
Hugs,
Sandy
The next day will be better and all the days after that.
Enjoy
Thank you my friend. I have surge protector for laptop & it didn't get hit. Will definitely look into APC surge protection for new TVs. Thanks for the tip. I hear the retirement club is a great one to be in!
Thanks Gail. Actually in the 'old' days I would have gotten waaay stressed about it but I just let it roll off my shoulders today. Felt good. Now the electronic stuff is another matter!

Thank you kymber! Today was all about technology but once i'm all set up with new equipment then it's on to cleaning & organizing both houses. Then it will be on to continue learning. Oh & tell Jam, we will be fishing most of the weekend!
DFW,
It sure is nice to be part of the retirement club. Especially when you get that retirement check and don't have to roll out of bed to go to the office. Just roll out of the bed and work at your homestead.
Congrats on your retirement! That sounds like the way my week has gone!
Hope you slept in this morning! Happy second day of the rest of your life! :-)
Deb
Hey....now you'll have to change the name of your blog, won't you? :-)
Thanks Melanie. This morning was better.
I did sleep over, or rather went back to sleep until 7:15. Still walked thought. I won't change the blog url but I guess I do need to change the header.
Your retirement snuck up on me! I didn't realize it was fast approaching, good for you!
Thank you Izzy!
Congrats! And I am more than a tad jealous since I have 20 yrs to go!
Ahh but that makes you young Tonya! I didn't start counting until it was 10 years for me.
As others have said, we're jealous too, ha. But we are actually thinking of retiring early, or maybe not so much retiring to collect SS but ing to jobs we like better, making less money but cleansing out souls, if that makes sense. I'm setting a goal of 5 to 7 more years....That would put us at 55-60 range. We would have the farm fixed up and ready to stay at full time and we could give up the city and go there full time. Yay for you!!! I'm so excited to hear about the new adventures!!! Congrats!!
Thank you 1st! I set my goal for the same range. I'm 56, so I made it! New routines, new daily tasks. Loving it so far on day 3.
Awesome, I thought you might have waited to official retirement age, ha. Our thinking is that we don't want to be to the age where we can't enjoy it...and who knows what 15 more years might bring, LOL! Glad to know we have similar paths. Yeah, I'm 50, 2nd Man is 53, so we were thinking that range too. Can't wait to see what fun adventures you have now!
Congratulations on the retirement!!! Hopefully the rest will get better. lol
Thank you SFG. They already have!
Oh my! Congratulations! I know that when I first started reading your blog it seemed a long way off but here it is! I know you must be happy, relieved, and ready for the next adventure. :)
Thank you Leigh!
Omigosh! It finally happened! Best wishes and congratulations to you on starting this new, wonderful phase of your life. Very soon you'll find yourself busier than you were while working full-time out of the home . . . but it will be a busyness of things you want to do and that will be so rewarding. Do remember now that you're in this retirement, it's very easy to over-work and forget to take time to pursue the "fun" things. We get so indoctrinated in the first part of our lives that we have a hard time "being lazy" now and then! Congratulations again to you and ENJOY!
Thank you Mama Pea. I have so many things planned but I will try to take it slow now & again.
Congratulations on your retirement, you finally made it! Now the real work begins :-)
