Went to the Country last weekend. Summer is mowing season for us. Greg works until 1:00p on Saturday. We leave the city & arrive around 4:00p. Jump on the mowers & mow until dark.
This is only the 2nd time mowing this year. We are about 5 weeks behind due to the rain earlier in the season. Greg went the weekend I was at the quilt retreat only to find the larger 72" mower had a mechanical problem so he had to mow with
my our 60". First mowing took almost 6 hours & a lot was still too wet to mow.
There was also string trimming to be done around all the trees & crepe myrtles. We usually only have to trim once or twice a year .... thank goodness.
But we got it done. Here are a few pics from around the place:

Oranges! |

Peaches about the size of a 50 cent piece |

Pretty blue weeds along fence line |

Honeysuckle |

Lots of it! |
 |
Pretty white weed bush. Lots & lots of these along the fence |

Blackberry growing under In-Laws porch. |

One of the Cherry Bark Oaks planted in 10/15. Birds seem to love it. |
And last but not least, I made a Lady Fidget Quilt I mentioned in my last post.

Our little peach tree has some nice sized fruit coming in. Now that our old trailer is out of the way, we intend on first putting in a metal garage, then planting the rest of the area with more peach trees, would like to have a small orchard one day.
We don't miss mowing or our lawn company in Florida... ya know thats how I came about your husbands business. Stephen sent us there for parts one time, and then we were pretty frequent until we moved up here.
Do you know anyone who might do some refurbishing of quilts? I have one that my grandmother made me in 1983, and it needs a make over. Much love to you guys

Hey JUGM,
Onw thing I wished I would have done is gone ahead & planted as many fruit trees as I could have. They are quite a bit of maintenance & I need to be there to watch over them.
Yes, I remember Stephen putting you in touch. I am not fond of the actual mowing but love how it looks afterwards. Hubby sees Stephen about every 4 or 5 weeks for maintenance ... lol. Let me ask around about the quilt refurbishing. I know many women in your area that do quilting but not sure about the "fixing". Will PM you about a couple of guilds in your area that my friend is acquainted with.
Thank you! Its gotten so worn in spots and could use some TLC..
Although I'm sure we have to mow a lot less frequently than you do, it's still a job that needs to be done but doesn't yield a lot of satisfaction (except for how good it looks for about 2 days!) in this household!
Unless you have a 7' high stone wall (or at least it seems that way) around your orchard, protecting those precious fruit trees is a hassle. But wouldn't it be wonderful if we could grow all the fruit we wanted? Sure would!
Your fidget quilt should be well appreciated wherever it finds a home. So clever.
DFW,
I so miss not have fruit trees on the property. Peach, and oranges are two of my favorite. We used to have tangerines when living in Florida.
Mowing is a full time job, one that I'm don't really enjoy doing......especially when it's real hot outside.
Beautiful fidget quilt!
I would love a tangerine tree. Never seem to see them in the nurseries though. I'll keep my eye out now. I need a new lemon & lime tree anyway. Ironically, I actually don't mind mowing. Mindless fun .. haha.
hey neat I have made a couple fidget quilts too! My mom is in a memory care place so I brought a couple there, and one to my dads nursing home. Unfortunately I havent seen them since :P
