Quilt Retreat 2016 & No Water

Went to our annual quilt retreat last week. It was in Lancaster, same as last year, you can read about the facilities here: 2015 Retreat. I got the same room with a separate entrance & private porch. It worked out great as I had Nelly with me this year. She became our official retreat mascot. A little skittish at first but by the end she had settled in quite nicely & everyone really liked her. Especially because she is so quiet, she would only bark when someone new came around.

Met some new ladies, many of whom are master quilters. Way out of my league but I had a great time anyway. Food, as usual, was excellent. Got to get back on the diet & exercise routine.

I must say my quilting skills are slowly improving. Here are a couple of projects I worked on:

Lap quilt top made w/fabic I had in my stash.
Started on a baby quilt. Plan on putting borders on each square.
More stash fabric. This will be a wall hanging or table topper.
The lady who owns the B&B is so very sweet & kind. Her husband died a few years back, from complications of Alzheimer's. My friend Debbie, who organized the retreat, suggested that we each make a fidget quilt to have Mrs. Catoe give to the local nursing home. A fidget quilt is a lap quilt with many sorts of things sewed on to make it easy for a patient to fidget with. Different fabrics for texture, velcro, zippers, etc. I didn't get mine made until I got home but I finished the 'male' version this morning. Will make another one & get them in the mail to her soon.

Our water pump switch went out last night so we are without water until Greg can get a new switch installed this evening after work. Gotta run to the hardware store. Hope I get the right one!

Hope everyone has a good week.

Thank you Kymber. I can't wait to have water. Just don't realize how many times a day I turn that faucet on until I can't.

You did a great job on all your projects, Deb! Love the fidget quilt...just send it to me as I'm going to be taking them to the nursing home. I'll run by and show it to Dianne first. :-)

It's a good thing Greg is so handy. I bet you'll keep him a while longer! lol

Thanks Debbie. Yep, he's definitely a keeper!

Your quilts are beautiful! I think you can safely say you've moved into full-fledged quilter status... It's interesting how much we take the availability of water for granted, isn't it? I had my pump switch go and it was a rude awakening. Hope you're up and running by now.

Thanks Susan. Yes, we have water, not much pressure but at least it's coming out of the faucets.

Not quite Sandy, but thank you. Yes, water is back in our pipes.

The lap quilt you worked on at the retreat is gorgeous! You are definitely under-rating your skills because your work looks perfect.

I had never heard of a fidget quilt, but what a clever idea.

I've lived without both running water or electricity and I've always maintained if I had to choose one or the other, the running water would come first! On the one or two occasions (since those "primitive" no-water-no-electricity days) when our well pump hasn't functioned, I feel completely hog-tied having no water!

Coming from you Mama Pea, I'll take that compliment, thank you! Yes, running water is definitely something I don't want to live without.
