Here's the quilt top I made for the baby:

Yes, this was a turkey in the city. He was still hanging around when I got back but Nelly chased him/her any chance she got & I haven't seen him/her again.
Been busy tying up legal stuff for my mother. My sister & I sat at the SS office for over 2 hours only to be told (by an unhelpful agent) that the paperwork we had received didn't contain the right information & we needed to supply different documentation. Got that taken care of the next week, with an agent that was very knowledgeable & had us in & out within an hour. Part of her estate will go into probate so we'll have to deal with that soon enough. It's a huge run around with government agencies & banks & patience isn't my best feature.
Unfortunately, some of my country friends lost their Dad a few weeks ago. I had the baby shower to attend later in the week so I went up early for the funeral & was able to spend some restful reflective time in the country.
While there, I made arrangements for the counter tops for the barn kitchen to be delivered & installed.

It's a quartz material which we love. You can set hot pots directly on it & it doesn't require any maintenance. Unfortunately the island measurements were wrong. The guy that measured only measured the width, not the length & presumed it was square instead of rectangular. There is supposed to be a 10" overhang by the sink side (to hide trash can) & 18" on the dining room side to be able to have counter seating. Hope to get replacement in a few weeks. It's aways something!

And fought off wasps.
Why do they always build their nests at door entrances?
My peach tree.
The other one, had 1/2 as many as this one & the wasps & birds had bitten into most of the fruit. I harvested about 10 or so over the course of a few days. They were very sweet & juicy. Had one for breakfast each day & brought back a couple to have w/my yogurt & granola for breakfast.
On the last day, Nelly & I were sitting on the back porch when I noticed this pack of dogs down by the pond.
There were actually 5 of them. They splashed around in the water & tried to see if they could get the fish feeder to give them some food. They didn't stay long.

I'm staying indoors as much as possible these days. The heat is hard enough to deal with but this humidity is overwhelming! I'm going to work on a two separate lap quilts for the baby's brother & sister. One top is done but still cutting fabric for the other one. Will post pics when done.

I love that first photograph! Darling girls. If it's been horrendous up here, I can't even imagine what it's like down there. Even thinking about quilting made me break out in a rash! You are amazing!!
Thanks Susan. Inside is my friend!
I hear ya on the heat and humidity...ugh it's SO oppressive. But staying inside where it's cool and accomplishing something like your quilting, well that's a great use of time.
Don't you love after mowing? It's so neat and clean...I love just sitting back and looking at it, ha.

Oops, meant to end with "stay cool!"
Thanks 1st. Can't wait for fall!
Beautiful little family and a lovely quilt. I am so envious of your stove! You have such a picturesque view of the pond. I would enjoy that view quite nicely from an air conditioned window, ha!
DFW,
Congratulations on a new baby in your family!! Great picture of Mom, Baby, and 1st Daughter. Love the front of the comforter you're making. This is a great hobby to have inside when it's uncomfortable weather outside. I so hear you on the heat outside being unbearable.
What a beautiful kitchen, I love your stove :-) Soon you'll have the correct size counter top for your island. I can already picture family hanging around the island when together.
I hope things work out easily with your Mother's estate. Probate is no fun, trust me I've been there twice.
Hugs,
Sandy
Thanks Tonya. The veiw isn't too bad from a screened in back porch with fans on high either!
Thanks Sandy. We are just trying to see what the legalities with everything is. She owes nothing & there's no contesting from either my sister or me. But, they tell us that it still must go into probate. Probably just so the state can make sure they get every last penny they need to squeeze.
Not a whole lot happening??? Gosh, seems as though you've had a lot going on! That is such an adorable picture of your cousin's wife and family. The new little babe looks as though she may have measured in as a long one . . . look at those darling legs! Sweet baby quilt you made. Will look forward to seeing the ones you make for the siblings.
I wouldn't be too happy to have that pack of dogs on the property. Be careful of Nellie when they are around.
Wish my counter tops were more like the color of yours . . . which I really like. Mine are too dark. Yes, they don't show much of any debris on them, but that's a downside, too, as I often find things that should have been wiped up that I missed! (I think we have way too many choices in this day and age.)
The fruit from your trees looks luscious. Glad you got some down time while you were there.
Even way up here in northern Minnesota our heat and humidity has been oppressive all summer. In our 40+ years here we've never seen anything like it. I darned near made myself sick in our blueberry patch yesterday. I think it was the humidity that got to me even more than the temperature. I, too, am ready, ready for fall!
Thanks Mama Pea. Yes, she was 21" long! You're right I think packs of dogs can be very dangerous. Nelly & I were very quiet & sitting in the screened in porch. They never saw us. My countertops in the city are dark too, so we wanted to go with a lighter color. I love them! Please be careful in that humidity, it's nothing to fool around with. Hubby almost got heat stroke a few weeks ago. Took him about an hour to eventually cool down. Dangerous conditions for sure!
I always love your country shots (peaches look fantastic!) but that first photo is priceless!
Your countertops are lovely. Dan liked the granite ones, but it was out of budget so I got granite-look. Wish I could put hot pots on them!
Thanks Leigh. We got a really good deal on the couter tops, much less than what we paid in the city.
