We had bad weather last week here in the city. In-Laws had an 80 foot tree fall in their yard. It fell right beside their house (& power line into the house)! It only damaged 1 small shingle as it fell. It missed my FIL's truck as well. They are 2 very lucky people.
We couldn't even wrap our arms around the base of it & had to call in a tree surgeon. Greg got the majority of it cut up & the tree surgeon took the huge pieces away, as well as the stump.
We got up this past Saturday morning to pick up the cut pieces. Greg cut up any that they hadn't already done (back breaking work!). The result of that tree gave use a whole dump trailer full of firewood to use at the Country House!
Woo hoo!

Too bad you aren't close I would have hauled all those big pieces off myself. I get a lot of my firewood from friends and neighbors who have had tree emergencies like that. Usually they want the small stuff for their own use but I am always happy to haul the big pieces off for my own :)
Wish you were closer too PP. We normally would have found a way to save the big pieces too, (have a friend that does beautiful woodwork but he has not way to handle that big) . Just too much going on right now & In-laws wanted it gone.
Oh, yes indeed - lucky you for scoring the firewood, and for your in-laws not having anything damaged by the falling :)
re: your pic - have you tried opening it and rotating, then saving. That should show it as horizontal in your directory (and then on your screen if you replace the pic you downloaded). Now, to get my neck straightened out again...
He Dani, I haven't tried opening & then saving as horizontal & putting it in to see if it shows vertical. But why not, I'll give it a try!
We scrambled to BUY firewood. We have already asked our neighbors for permission to thin the woods on their property for next years firewood supply. Seems like y'all were lucky for various reasons :)
Yay - it worked :)
That was a win-win! Almost nil damage and firewood to boot!
Tonya, I'm not looking forward to stacking it but it IS a good workout, which I sorely need.
Leigh, I know, we are very happy as our stash in the country is getting low.
Wow! That's a big tree!!! Looks like EVERYONE was lucky. lol
It was. So glad more damage wasn't done.
