The lake is one from my childhood. At one point it housed 2 separate swim/camp parks, long gone now. My parents, aunts, uncles, cousins & myself spent many summer days at 1 of the parks. As a teenager I had a friend that had use of a family home on the lake. It was owned by her grandparents & each of the kids families had use of it for 2 weeks each summer. I learned to water ski on the lake. It took a full day of me trying over & over again but I finally got it. I remember the yelps from the end of the dock when I finally stayed up to ski around the lake. My 1st roomate's family used to camp at the same park & she & I would go down for the weekend for days of lounging around on the large dock & more water skiing.
About 1/3 of the lake has vacation homes scattered along the shore. The other 2/3 is owned by the military & is used as a training facility. They have cabins that military personnel can rent. They also have 2 full service camp grounds with concrete pads with water, electric & sewer hookups. However, you have to be a member to be able to camp there. And you have to be military or sponsored by someone that is or was military to become a member. My sister & BIL are sponsored by my BIL's uncle. They pay a small annual fee for the privilege.
The 2 public parks are long gone, bought by a developer, so the general public doesn't come anymore. There are several families of friends that all go at the same time. Their kids are all grown but they come & go while their parents are there. My BIL has 2 jet skis & one of their friends brings his motor boat & paddle boat. They anchor them just past the end of the dock so they are easily available. All the girlfriends bring various floats & tie them all together. They spend the days just floating, talking & gossiping.
Each family eats breakfast & lunch on their own but they all get together for dinner. My BIL brings his big charcoal grill & usually cooks the meat & the other families contribute sides & desserts. After dinner we either rode the golf carts around or went for a slow sunset boat ride.
I got up each morning around 6:00a & went for a brisk 1, 2 or 3 mile walk. I then sat down under the awning or went out to the end of the dock to read. After breakfast we usually went down to the floats to soak up some sunshine. I would then read some more usually while sitting in the shade on the dock. After lunch I read some more, floated some, went for paddle boat rides, jet ski rides or boat rides. As the afternoons turned hot I usually napped for about an hour. I'd then get up & read some more & then help prepare supper. Then just before bed, I'd read some more. I made it through 2 books! It was a wonderful way to spend a few days with people I love.

Ah - sounds like just my kind of break - reading, reading and then some more reading. Normally can't put a good book down, once I''m in it - and have been know to do almost all nighters to satisfy my curiosity as to how the book ends lol (much to RMans disgust)
Oh, that floating on the water looks so blooming relaxing...
Dani,
Reading was my first hobby & I still love it to this day. Floating was indeed wonderful.
DFW - say it with me ----- HEAVEN. I'M IN HEAVEN. it's how i feel when we go down to the river or beach. i am so glad that you had this reprieve from daily life. sending much love to you, as always.
your friend,
kymber
Sure looks and sounds like fun. What did ya read? Prepping and preparedness books I hope :)
Thanks Kymber. Yes, it did feel like HEAVEN for a few days.
Not this time PP. I do read those books but generally speaking the fiction ones like One Second After & Patriot Games get my blood pressure up & make me realize that I've gotten lax & then I spend weeks getting busy again. One was a sappy romance & the other was a mystery about a haunted house.
You know how this sounds to me: Absolutely. Wonderful. :o}
Mama Pea, You'll have to come down & join me next year.
Looks like such a relaxing time, Deb! What was the mystery? I love ghost stories! :-)
Not a very good one. The House on Persimmon Road. Wouldn't recommend it.
Sounds very relaxing!
DFW,
I know that area you're talking about. As a kid, and military brat we used to head out that way.
It's so nice to just relax out at a campsite with family, enjoy boating, and swimming.
We can't wait until fall, that's when we camp here in OK.
You finished 2 books on your trip, are you reading anything special?
It was M.E.!
Sandy, It's a great lake. Holiday's & weekends are crowded but during the week there is hardly anyone on the lake itself. I love to camp in the fall in the mountains. That's usually when my Dad & his wife head to the Great Smokey Mountains for a few weeks. the books were nothing special, just quick light summer reading.
That sounds heavenly. I so wish we lived close to water. Sometimes it's so good to get away.
For some reason your comment did not come to my email. Nor could I get your email to open. I am glad I found the comment. If I have failed to reply to other comments, allow me to apologize. I don't know what's going on but it did appear on my blog. Strange things happen all the time in computer land.
I think we've both learned our lesson with black hoses!
What a wonderful place to spend a few days. I also dreamed of an RV but I have also dreamed of Sam Eliot and neither one has shown up!.
Have a blessed day.
Leigh,
So happy that my only sibling has the comforts to enjoy.
Yeah Gail,
I have day dreams that don't come true as well!
